Once again, we are offering you a new edition of our Ladakh Photo Tour. This area, also known as ‘The Little Tibet’, is an amazing destination with thousands of possibilities for social, landscape, Nature and portrait photography lovers.
Located in a wonderful area, North to the Indian Himalayas, most Ladakh is around 9,800 ft./3,000 m high, offering us wide valleys surrounded by stunning peaks and mountain ranges, beautiful lakes with precious deep blue colors, or even a high mountain desert with incredible dunes which will allow us to get spectacular compositions.
All these impressive sceneries will bring us countless photography opportunities day by day, being able also to enjoy often of the beautiful lights and contrasts as the sun goes down and hides behind the mountains.
Some of the locations we will be photographing include Pangong Tso, a wonderful mountain lake, around 13,800 ft./4,200 m high, which is natural boundary between India and China, or the Tsomoriri Lake, even a bit higher, both of them surrounded by spectacular mountains. We will be able to do some fantastic sunrise and sunset shooting sessions there.
We will also visit the Nubra Valley, where we will photograph the extraordinarily beautiful Diskit Monastery, as well as a magical mountain desert in the middle of this valley. To get to this location, we will drive the world famous Khardung La Mountain Pass, at around 18,300 ft./5,600 m. high, one of the highest roads on Earth. The views and the moments we will be enjoying on our drive will be unforgettable.
In many of the towns and villages we will be visiting, there are extraordinary Buddhist monasteries, often in the middle of majestic mountains. We will photograph many of these monasteries, a dream come true for architecture and cultural photographers. But also, we’ll have wonderful chances to capture the monks praying and doing their daily routines.
Apart from the monks, we will be constantly finding great opportunities to photograph the locals, specially in Leh, the largest town in Ladakh, where we will walk by the markets, something that will allow us to get hundreds of great pictures.
We will even be searching for the Changpa, a nomadic tribe that we have been able to photograph in the past, in one of the highlights of our trip. It’s not sure we will be able to photograph them, but we will try our best to get it.
Another of the highlights of the trip will be the Hemis Festival, a Buddhist festival that takes place in one of the most important and beautiful monasteries in Ladakh. Hundreds, or even thousands of locals will get to the festival bringing us also many opportunities of capturing wonderful portraits.

Meeting of the group at the Delhi airport for the beginning of the Ladakh photo tour. This morning, we fly from Delhi to Leh, in Ladakh. The 90-minute flight will bring us impressive views of the surrounding peaks, being one of the most scenic flights on Earth, taking you right over the top of the mountains.
Once in Leh, it’s necessary to adapt to the high altitude, so we will have a quite calm day. First of all, we’ll go to our hotel and rest for some hours.
In the afternoon, we will go for a walk to Leh’s main street, Main Bazar, where we will take our first portraits from Ladakh.
Later, we’ll drive to Shanti Stupa, from where we will be able to enjoy spectacular views from the town. We will be there for sunset, and will also capture blue hour.
Then, we will go back to rest at our hotel.
After breakfast, we will drive to Hemis Buddhist monastery, around 40 miles to the South. This is the largest and most important monastery in Ladakh, and we will be there at the perfect moment; during their festival.
We will be able to photograph fantastic dances, the beautiful clothes of the performers, their masks… as well as all the locals who will be enjoying the festival, arriving from many towns in Ladakh.
Depending on time, we will photograph sunset from Hemis, or go back to Leh and visit the Royal Palace and the extraordinary views of the town from there.
Afterwards, we’ll go back to our hotel to sleep.
We will get again to Hemis, for the second day of the festival, staying there until lunch time.
After lunch, we will drive by the Indus River towards Lamayuru, stopping in different places to get some shots.
We will finally get to Lamayuru, and will get to the monastery to take some pictures of the monks and their routines.
For sunset, we will be able to capture the impressive views of the village and the spectacular monastery, surrounded by the mountains.
After this, we’ll go to our accommodation in Lamayuru to rest.
We will get up early to photograph the sunrise in the amazing Lamayuru area.
After breakfast, we’ll drive back to the East, stopping by Alchi monastery. Here, we will be visiting several Buddhist temples, some of them more than 1,000 years old. We will be able to see Buddha statutes, or some of the oldest paintings in Ladakh, but it’s forbidden to photograph in most of the temples. However, the exterior views will also bring us some good opportunities.
We will also visit the Likir Monastery, from the XIV century, with a 25 feet tall Buddha gold statue, and will try to see and photograph some of the Gelukpa monks living there.
Later, we will continue to Leh, where we may do some street photography, and later will capture sunset from some of the viewpoints of the city, before going back to the hotel.
Today, we’ll head to the Nubra Valley, to the North. Nubra means garden in the local dialect, and it’s an amazing valley in the middle of the mountains. We will be able to see and photograph very varied sceneries in the area, and during our drive to get there.

Once we arrive to the Nubra Valley, we will get to our hotel in Diskit to rest for some time, and then will head to the impressive desert in the valley, which will bring us spectacular opportunities for our compositions. We’ll stay here until sunset.
Then, we’ll drive to our hotel to sleep.
We’ll get wake up early to capture sunrise by the beautiful Hunder dunes.
After breakfast, we’ll get to Diskit monastery, to photograph the monks and the beautiful architecture of the place. We will be visiting a stunning 105 ft. / 32 m Buddha statue, built in the last years.
After lunch, we will go for a walk by the village, where we’ll find countless opportunities to photograph the locals and their daily routines.
We’ll stay photographing the area till night, and then come back to the hotel.
We will wake up early to go back to Leh, after photographing sunrise by the Diskit monastery.
We’ll spend most of the day driving back to Leh, but at the same time, we will stop several times to photograph the great views by our drive.
Once in Leh, we will get to rest at out hotel.
Today we have another long way, to the impressive Pangong Lake. We’ll wake up very early and will head to Thiksey monastery for sunrise shooting. Afterwards, we will try to photograph the monks praying, one of the highlights of the trip.
After our stop by Thiksey, we’ll continue our way to Pangong Lake, stopping to photograph several of the beautiful sceneries we will be driving by.
Pangon Lake, at 13,800 ft./4,200 m. high, is a huge deep blue lake, located between India, Tibet and China (most of its part is in China). The lake is surrounded by spectacular mountains and peaks, and will be the perfect spot for our sunset shooting.
We’ll have some dinner and go to sleep after sunset.
We’ll wake up early to photograph the sunrise by the shore of Pangong Lake.
We’ll continue exploring and photographing the lake and the roads around it during the rest of the day, staying out until the sun is gone.
At night, if the sky is clear, we may do a night photography session, trying to capture the Milky Way, and then we’ll get back to sleep at our accommodation.
Today, we’ll have our last sunrise shooting by Pangong Lake, and then we’ll drive back towards Leh, where we may get by lunch time.
We will have some free time to rest during the afternoon, before getting back again to photograph some of the markets in town, searching for portraits of the locals.

We’ll wake up early again, in this case for heading towards Korzok, by the Tsomoriri Lake.
Again, we have a long drive to our destination, but we’ll do several stops to photograph the vast landscapes we’ll have around us.
We’ll arrive at Korzok by lunch time, and after some time to rest, we’ll go out to capture some portraits of the people living in this remote village.
For sunset, we will get by the shore of the beautiful Tsomoriri Lake, from where we will enjoy the views as the last lights of the day get to the mountains in front of us.
Finally, we will go back to our hotel to sleep.
For sunrise, we’ll head again to the shoreline of the lake, hoping to get some beautiful light.
After our session, we’ll have breakfast at the hotel, and then will drive out of the village, in search of the Changpa, a nomadic tribe that is usually staying near the lake by this time of the year.
Meeting and photographing the Changpa will be another of the highlights of the trip, since we would may be able to photograph them inside their tents, while they do their daily works, etc.
After spending most of the time in the Changpa areas, we will go back to the lake to photograph the sunset and, if conditions are good, we will also do a night photography session in the area, to capture the Milky Way and the wonderful night sky in this area.
After shooting sunrise by Tsomoriri Lake, we will take the road again, back to Leh.
We’ll spend the day on the road, stopping by several locations to photograph the sceneries and the people we will be finding on our way.
We will arrive to Leh in the afternoon, and will have free time for shopping and preparing our luggage for the next day.
We’ll sleep in our hotel in Leh.
We’ll be waking up early to drive to the airport, from where we will get our flights back to Delhi and, from there, to our final destinations.

We will also photograph some of the most amazing locations in Delhi, such as Lotus Temple and the Red Fort, where we will head to capture sunset and blue hour on this magical city.

However, due to each country particularities and conditions, it is possible that the routes could vary, changing the itineraries and the places to visit.
In this sense, it will be up to the photographer/s guide/s the decision of changing any of the programmed activities and shooting sessions for each day, depending on factors as weather or light conditions, or by their consideration or thoughts, being the tour hosts, always in search of the best possible experiences and moments of light for the customers of this trip.
Also, sometimes some of the activities and sessions can be cancelled, depending on weather conditions.
The program may also be changed in case of emergency, injury, illness, or robbery of any of the participants or main photographers, among other causes.
At the same time, both the photographers and ‘B the travel brand’ reserves the right of changing the photographer/s guide/s in case of strong reason, such as first grade relatives or own illness or hospitalization, severe health problems, accidents, etc. In those cases, the agency will bring another photographer able to guide the group in the same destination.
Our Photo Tours are trips carefully designed and planned to take our clients to a wonderful photo destination, always trying to take them to the greatest locations at the best possible moments. This is different from a Workshop, which has more of a learning component on it.
However, if any of our clients needs it, we will try to help them with the settings of their gear, as well as with any concept about photography, or giving them ideas for composition, etc. Also, if you are interested in receiving further instruction on photography, you can contact us asking for a quote.
Photography will always come number first during the trip. This means that, sometimes, we will be late for lunch or dinner, or even have to wait to the next meal.
We will usually be waking up early and staying out till late, and even have night photography sessions sometimes, depending on the trip and conditions. However, many of the days of the trip, we will also try to give free time so clients can rest, usually before of after lunch.
The traveler is responsible of having all the documentation for the trip. To visit India, citizens from any country need their Passport, with an expiration date longer than 6 months after the trip.
You will also need a valid Visa for India, that you can get applying online. Just let us know and we’ll help you with the process!
Always check the requirements with your country authorities before traveling to a foreign country.
Neither the travel company ‘B the travel brand’ nor the photographers hosting the trip have any responsibility about the travelers’ documentation or about their allowance or refusal entering the visited country.
This Ladakh Photo Tour includes basic assistance insurance. Those travelers who wish to, can get an advanced insurance for an additional cost. In this case, ‘Alma Mochilera’ will inform and help the client to choose insurance with conditions and coverings adapted to the client and the travel purchased.
To join this trip, it is mandatory to have a travel insurance, just in case anything could happen. A travel insurance covering high medical expenses would help in case of any inconvenience.
‘Alma Mochilera’ will give personal counseling and advice to travelers when purchasing their trip. Clients will be given a list with all that they need for the route, tips about how to prepare a medical kit for the travel, recommendations about the photography gear for the place and kind of photography, etc. Our staff will be delighted to solve any doubt that the clients could have when preparing the trip.
We are completely sure that this Ladakh Rocky Mountains Photo Tour will be an unforgettable experience for travelers, as well as an intensive photography experience. ‘B the travel brand’ considers it its responsibility, as the travel agent, to promote values such as respect (cultural, social and environmental). Neither ‘Alma Mochilera’ as the organizing company, nor the photographers hosting the tour, are responsible for any risk or decision taken by the clients during the trip. They are not also responsible for any incident or accident during the trip, and will have no responsibility at all in case of accident, illness or injuries.
As previously stated, in case of an accident or emergency, the itinerary or activities in Photo Tour may need to be changed or cancelled until the situation is solved.
The client declares that he or she accepts all the conditions on this trip at the time he or she makes a reservation payment for it.
At the moment of the purchase confirmation, the client will have to pay an initial payment of €600 (around $740 as of January, 17th, 2018). Then, there will be another €700 (around $865) payment two months before the departure date. The rest of the payment will be effective at maximum 20 days prior to the trip. The agency can resolve the contract and apply the established withdrawal rules before the departure if the client doesn’t make effective any of the expected payments in the deadline, as the terms previously seen. The features that make up the combined travel contract come from the information given to the client in the brochure or program, as well as from the indications regarding this information that could have been given when confirming the reservation.
In case the agency doesn’t complete the minimum needed group to confirm the trip, the client will recover the 100% of the initial payment.
However if the client doesn’t show or cancels the trip, the following cancellation policies will be applied:
– Until 61 days prior to the trip: €600
– From 60 to 30 days prior to the trip: €1,300
– 30 days prior to the trip: 100% of the trip cost (no refund at all).
Prices are based in the Exchange rates by January, 17th, 2018. The currency may be updated until 21 days prior to the departure, according to Spanish Travel Laws, applying a supplement/discount in case of change.
Once the reservation is done by the client, and the services and their prices are confirmed by the agency, these prices only could be revised until 20 calendar days prior to the departure dates, only in case there are variations in the transportation costs (including the fuel prices), in accommodations, in rates and taxes referring to certain services (such as landing, boarding in ports and airports), or in monetary exchange rates applied to the trip.
